Maryjoy Paguirigan In The Jungle

Photographer Anne Logarta and her model friend Maryjoy Paguirigan picked the right studio for their creative session. Our stage Hill 4 also known as a “Tuscan/Jungle” stage is perfect for tropical summer shots.

“My name is Anne Logarta and I am a photographer based in Orange County, California. I specialize in portrait and lifestyle photography. For this shoot, I chose the Jungle Room because I thought it would go well my model’s style. I was accompanied by my friend/model Maryjoy Paguirigan. We incorporated beach/island/tropical outfits to match with the environment. The jungle room had so much to offer and we had so much fun shooting there. I’ve shot at this studio so many times and I have never been disappointed. They are very accommodating and so helpful. That’s why I keep coming back! I can’t wait to shoot at FD Photo Studio again. ”

About this location:

Stage Hill 4 is one of our largest and brightest stages. Advantageously positioned with the windows facing west and north, this stage gets plenty of sift indirect sunlight in the first half of the day and lots of direct sunbeams in the second half. Hill 4 is furnished with several comfy and photogenic couches of cream and and golden/brown leather color. Rebecca Dias By Zuzanna Gerulewicz

Photographer Zuzanna Gerulewicz does not cease to amaze us with her picture perfect shots. This time her muse was Rebecca Dias, striking catchy looks and poses and studio Hill 1.

“I’m a polish born photographer specializing in people. my work is between Europe and US but I’m always down to take my camera anywhere else in the world. Telling a story through images, evoke emotions and imprint a piece of soul in photographs is what it’s all about for me. In art, I value creativity, composition, mood and style, and I strive for exploration of these aspects and their strong stand on my set. ”

About this location:

Studio Hill 1 has a few distinct features you will not find in any other stages. Facing the west side this stage gets lots of natural light in the afternoon and has amazing lighting conditions during the golden hour. Among included props are industrial wooden table with benches, two antique green chairs and white leather comfy chair. And the bed. The bed that comes with clean sheets (fees apply) and photogenic look, ready for always anticipated, the “bed scene” Besides, Hill 1 comes equipped with black, white and grey backdrops already installed and three strobe lights included in the hourly rate. Violet Grae In Pro I Studio

Trip hop music artist Violet Grae visited our studio PRO I for series of dramatic, contrastive photos. With help of gels and stage’s interior, Violet is bathing in blue/red color.

Few words about the artist:

“Violet Grae is a soulful trip hop music artist, performer, and recording artist. Her music combines soulful, powerhouse melodies over edgy electronic compositions. When most hear Violet’s voice they are genuinely surprised by her rich powerful tone. The artist is heavily influenced vocally by Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and musically inspired by Frank Ocean, The Roots, and FKA Twigs. With her eclecticism she calls her music soulful trip hop that meets scifi jazz. Her soulful and unparalleled melodies will haunt you. This marriage of new school and vintage has barely been touched, which makes Violet’s sound incomparable. “Violet’s voice has to be heard to be appreciated” -Huffington Post.”

Splashes From The Rain Room By Mark Mendez

Our busiest studio – Rain Room at the Hill location, keeps getting updated with amazing submissions from clients who “got wet first hand”. This time photographer Mark Mendez showed how cool Hill 7 studio could be!

Tate Dewey And Nancy Jae Park

It was a pleasure to host a photoshoot for this creative crew – model Tate Dewey and photographer Nancy Jae Park. The couple came up with great cinematic pictures, shooting against various interiors of stage D.

“I’m an actor, and long time collaborator with a photographer and friend named Nancy Jae Park, and as we updated some new photos and looks for me for the new year, we wanted to try more than just the usual headshots, and see how incorporating full body, movement based photos would change my expressions, and we found that with a combination of different outfits, different backgrounds and settings, we were able to capture a variety of moods and expressions that we hadn’t before with just setting up one spot and being still as we took photographs. Shooting at FD gave us the chance to explore different settings and the freedom to move around as we captured spontaneous feelings and expressions, and was a great experience overall. ”

Stage D is one of the most spacious and most affordable spaces we currently offer. Suitable for both large and small production teams, this stage is on always on a high demand. Lighting conditions are of supreme quality. If working with natural light, towards the sunset the studio gets plenty of great, warm light through large south-west facing frosted windows. Nice and quick session by a creative duo – model Jayla Sweet and photographer Jessica Lynn Diaz took place in “white steps” studio Art 1. Working primarily with abundant natural light, the duo captured somewhat dreamy shots.

Stage Art 1 was a choice of location for this session. Adorned with features like white grand piano and three step podium this stage is a tool of versatility, provider of great natural light, benchmark of industrial Downtown minimalistic design. This space has its windows facing South and West and gets beautiful direct light during the PM hours, and great open-shaded light in the morning. Using strobes? No worries, we include 3 strobe lights in the hourly rate along with black, white and grey background available. Comedian Margaret Cho At Fd Studios

Fashion, Editorial, and Portrait Photographer Sergio Garcia had a very fun client in our studio D (main location) – renowned comedian Margaret Cho. The creative crew came up with variety of looks, thanks to versatile interior of the stage.

“Originally from the mid-west (Chicago) I’m now a photographer based in Los Angeles. While I’ve never herded goats, I do herd Molly, my 4lb Pomchi. I’m addicted to Tex-Mex food which is impossible to find in LA, I have a camera tattooed on my wrist (surprised?) and I’m working on attaining a green thumb (so far … let’s not talk about it). I’m available for work anywhere a car or plane will take me – (including Elba Island.)”

Become Better Photographer: Autofocus Assistance with David Bergman

Today’s tip from photographer David Bergman and AdoramaTV will help you get razor-sharp images in low-light, by using the auto focus assist beam. If you ever shot in low-light conditions, you probably fell victim of bad, out-of-focus images as well. Luckily, Mr. Bergman has a few quick tips to solve this problem with a use of speed lite AF system.

David shares: “Your camera’s autofocus system needs to see obviously to be able to focus. You know that red grid pattern that shoots out of your flash? That’s the AF assist beam and it can be a lifesaver in low-light, but there are few things you need to know to use it correctly.”

“The AF assist beam comes out of an external flash, like a Canon speed light. For it to work properly, your focus point needs to be on or near the middle of the frame. The beam just doesn’t help that much around the edges. You also have to make sure you’re using the correct focus mode. The beam will only fire if you’re on single or one shot. This makes sense of course, because it takes a second or two to fire and lock focus on your subject. “

“That really won’t work too well if your subject is moving. There’s some less obvious uses for the beam as well. You can use it if you’re shooting without looking through the viewfinder, since you’ll see it, and it’ll help you aim the camera properly if you’re doing like a ‘Hail Mary’ photo.”

“It can even help you focus if you don’t want to use the flash at all. Each camera is different, but on this 5D Mark IV, you can disable the flash in the camera settings, and the beam will still fire before you take the picture. If your camera doesn’t allow that, you can always dial the power all the way down, and point the flash away from your subject. So the beam will fire but the flash won’t affect your exposure, much, or at all. Once you start regularly using the auto focus assist beam, you’ll find it to be invaluable.”
