“Born in the US, of Greek descent and now based in New York, I have a strong passion for photography and find myself drawn to a mix of street, nature and landscape themes. Using a Leica Rangefinder allows me to better interact with my subject, noticing details and capturing moments that would otherwise go undocumented all while maintaining a very unobtrusive presence. My first camera an Olympus OM1, I purchased in 1978 during my Thanksgiving College break in NYC 35 years ago….Holding in my hands this tiny mechanical camera felt good and natural. Since then, I went on to try other brands such as Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Contax and Ricoh, but nothing gave me that special feeling again until 1996 when my close friend Ken Hansen introduced me to the Leica M6. Holding it and working the film advance lever with its silky smooth movement and pressing and feeling that buttery – smooth shutter along with that magical “click” made for love at first sight. Ever since, my love and appreciation for these Leica Rangefinder mechanical and digital marvels has helped me capture and share with my friends and family those special moments of what I see and feel when I press the shutter. As you can see from my style, I like to shoot wide and normal aspect, which enables me to engage my subject making them feel comfortable and allowing for a more relaxed and natural process. The small size and portability of the system makes for a very effective street, travel and candid photography tool. ”

NY Studio 1 known as “White Floor” studio has a few distinct features you will not find in any other stages. Facing the west side this stage gets lots of natural light in the afternoon and has amazing lighting conditions during the golden hour. Among included props are industrial white platform. And the bed. The bed that comes with clean sheets (fees apply) and photogenic look, ready for always anticipated, the “bed scene” Besides, Studio 1 comes equipped with black, white and grey backdrops already installed and three strobe lights included in the hourly rate. Stage Hill 4 is one of our largest and brightest stages. Advantageously positioned with the windows facing west and north, this stage gets plenty of sift indirect sunlight in the first half of the day and lots of direct sunbeams in the second half. Hill 4 is furnished with several comfy and photogenic couches of cream and and golden/brown leather color. Photographer Philicia Montgomery shares this shoot’s story “My model for this set of images was Crystal Annrod, she has been a model for over ten years, and with her posing and confidence, it definitely showed in the photos. We shot multiple looks, some in studio and some outdoors, and she modeled the looks beautifully.”

About the photographer:

My name is Philicia Montgomery, I am portraits and events photographer, and I have been a full-time photographer for about two years. Though I’m still experimenting with my particular style, I know that I love editorial fashion photography because of all the freedom it allows. Styling my shoots is almost as fun as creating the images and I love when the looks, makeup, and posing all come together. This episode is dedicated for our traveling creatives who have too many bags to carry around. Photographer David Bergman with AdoramaTV will share his tips on best practices of making each travel easy.

David shares: “Most people carry a small bag with a camera and just a lens or two, but it can be a literal pain to carry that around all the time. Especially in airports where they’re also a big target for theft. So what I suggest is to keep your gear in the bag, but then put that inside of your carry-on suitcase. That way it’s out of sight from thieves, and you can comfortably roll your bag until you get onto the plane.”

“However if you’re on a small plane and have to gate check your carry-on. What you do is simply take out your camera bag at the gate, then check the carry-on while keeping all your photo gear with you on the plane. If you’re a pro-photographer and travel with a lot of gear, instead of a small bag, you probably already use a big roller for day-to-day use. But I know mine doesn’t fit in the overhead compartment of most regional planes, and international airlines can be really strict when enforcing those size limits! In that case what I do is pack my gear into a smaller photo backpack first, and put that entire thing inside of the bigger roller at the gate.”

“I just take out the backpack, and check the empty roller all by itself. The bag will fit in the overhead, or under my seat, with no problem, and when I land at my destination, I put the bag back into the roller, and I’m on my way! No matter how much gear you have, taking this extra step gives you the best of both worlds. You have a roller for most of your travels, and can still keep everything protected when you carry it onto the plane. “

Become Better Photographer: Use Simple Objects with Creative Approach

In today’s episode with photographer Elaine Torres and AdoramaTV we will learn 5 simple yet creative ways to make your images stand out from the crowd.

Elaine shares: “Five objects that I’m going to be showing you [are] our clear glass and mirror, sharpies, yarn and translucent plastic bag. I’m going to be cutting the scene on the bags and sticking them to the background to create texture.”

“Now we’re gonna do the clear glass. I love a using clear glass because if you place it in front of your lens and in front of your subject, you can reflect the lights around the room and you can also add substances to the clear glass, like for example water. That’s going to produce these cool flares around your subject. “

Elaine continues with her 3rd object : “I will use this sharpie to draw designs on the background. This way you have endless possibilities for backgrounds… what I’m going to do today is basically draw her.”

“Now we’re using this beautiful and huge CYC wall, because I want the natural light to be bouncing off the walls, the ceilings, the floor. The reason I like to use mirrors in photography is to create more of experimental pictures, because it just creates so many illusions, and it alters your perspective, and it’s really cool and artsy.”

And for the last object Elaine’s choice is – “I love to use yarn because you can do a number of incredible effects with this. I’m going to use it by creating a design around the floor. You can also use it in front of your lens, and it will create a nice effect. “
