The Stage

Stage A, chosen for this shoot, is a modest sized studio, great for a nice and clean high-key look. A long time favorite of our clients, Stage A gets beautiful direct sunlight in the morning through north and east-facing windows, and beautifully soft indirect light as the day goes on. Equipped with all of the same great gear that’s included with all of our studios – strobes, light modifiers, radio trigger, and paper backdrops – it’s a wonderful place to be able to achieve different looks all in the same place. About the photographer/the shoot:

I have been doing photography since I was 9 years old and I started out on film, but switched to digital shortly since it was becoming a thing at that time. I recently got back into film and have been shooting it mostly for personal enjoyment, since I love the look of it and the experience of the whole process. I decided to try shooting some double exposures after being inspired by my friend Starla, who is amazing at them, despite having never shot studio portraits or really any portraits at all. This was my third time shooting the double exposures with a model and second time shooting in a studio. Matison Card was my model, and she is absolutely amazing. I just gave her an idea of what I wanted and would give a tiny bit of direction here and there, but most of it was up to her. These were shot with just the natural light in the studio. I shot two rolls of her with different outfits and vibes, and then took them home to shoot through again with flowers at my house and at the park. I am so excited about the results, and I actually am making a zine with some of these photos, as well as the two other models I shot. I loved FD Photo Studio so much, and am excited to come back and try some other studios for some different looks!

About the stage:

StageF was used for this team’s creative session. The studio is the smallest space we currently offer for our clients. Yet it is one of the most brightest stages with the tremendous amount of natural light coming from North West. It has gained a nickname – “light box” by some of our regulars and it truly fulfills it at any time of the day from dawn until dusk. This studio also features two section laminate floor of white and dark color for your creative needs. As with any of our stages, Studio F comes with 3 strobe lights already included in the hourly rate and backdrop seamless paper installed. Take a closer look HERE.

A quick excerpt about the photographer:

It all begun when I was 12 y.o. and was gifted an SLR camera by my Grandpa. Little that I understood and foreseen that it will ultimately become my passion.

Some years later, that’s all I could dream of, doing what I love most, Photography and Cinematography. I really enjoy the technical approach when comes to creation of a unique image. Photography utterly means Drawing with Light, from Greek φωτός (phōtos) means Light and γραφή (graphé) mean Drawing. Be it a candid emotion or a staged pose, I choose the creative lighting in order to achieve a creative result.

My name is Jamie Richards, I’m a freelance photographer in San Bernardino, I have been taking pictures since the 1980’s. I use a Nikon D810 for my studio shots, which I’m very happy with the results I get. I really enjoy going to FD Studios for all the variety of rooms they have to offer.

Stage Hill 4 is one of our largest and brightest stages. Advantageously positioned with the windows facing west and north, this stage gets plenty of sift indirect sunlight in the first half of the day and lots of direct sunbeams in the second half. Hill 4 is furnished with several comfy and photogenic couches of cream and and golden/brown leather color. Stage D was chosen as a creative space for this session. Working with both natural light and strobes this stage provides the best lighting solutions in any instance. With lots of space to encompass, stage D gives the opportunity for creating different diverse looks for photo and video projects. Stage Art 1 was a choice of location for this session. Adorned with features like white grand piano and three step podium this stage is a tool of versatility, provider of great natural light, benchmark of industrial Downtown minimalistic design. This space has its windows facing South and West and gets beautiful direct light during the PM hours, and great open-shaded light in the morning. Using strobes? No worries, we include 3 strobe lights in the hourly rate along with black, white and grey background available. As photographer I find myself captivated by two visual inspirations. The first is nostalgic, where my imagination is stirred by feelings from a childhood growing up in the Mid-West, spent on the shores of the Great Lakes: the beauty of natural light, the simple moments and genuine emotions of carefree youth and innocence.
