Floral Beauty Shots by Alena Mealy

Floral Beauty Shots by Alena Mealy
Where does an artist get her inspiration from? We have heard stories of breathtaking travels and life changing personal struggles. There were quite a few love stories and role model inspirations. And really, for the true artist, it can be awaiting on every corner of the present moment, entangled within daily routine. For Alena Mealy, LA based photographer who recently visited our Pro Stage I, a daily dose of inspiration can be… a floral design.

A few words about the lady behind the camera:

Alena Mealy is a full time photographer based in West Hollywood and available to travel world-wide. She takes pride in her art, and is grateful to her family for an upbringing that could only be describe as: comical and adventurous.

“My inspiration is drawn from my education in travel, my glorified love for classic cinema, and my need for creating beautiful things.

Art is open ended. From reality to fantasy, we should constantly push boundaries, be loud, absurd,  and experimental. We ought to get weird and color way outside the line.”

At times, there are curious debates that appear among the industry members and the question is raised – who has the most say and the most impact on the photoshoot’s final result? Is that a keen eye of the Photographer or precise brush strokes of the MUA? Maybe is it the outstanding outfit idea of the Stylist or moment’s countenance of the Model? Lauryn, FD photo studio, DTLA, blog, Blackout, beauty shoot, !done Here is a transcript for the artist’s story:

J. Lauryn’s career first began when she moved from Hawaii to LA in 2007 to be a professional dancer and choreographer. One of her most memorable moments was dancing alongside Queen Latifah at the 2011 People’s Choice Awards, however it wasn’t long before she wanted to step out from the shadows, steal the microphone and take over the show. “I always had a strong passion for music and writing since I was a kid,” J. says. “It was only a matter of time before I realized I needed to follow my heart and focus on music”. As well as starting to create on her own music J. has honed her phenomenal talents by working on forthcoming tracks by RnB singer Ashanti, Roc Nation’s Vic Mensa and K-pop superstar, CL. J reveals, “Vic would call me up to the studio and just say “go in the booth and do your thang. CL was really fun to write with, we wrote a few really vibey songs”. Last year she also provided guest vocals on fellow Cali band The Johnsons’ reggae tinged track. ‘Kick It’. Whether J’s working hard in the studio, chilling out with her dog Samson Dubie or filming freestyles for her Instagram armed only with a ukulele her ambition remains the same: “spread good vibes, good messages, and positivity”.

A few words about the photographer and her artistic vision:
“I am an LA-based photographer and alumni of Art Center College of Design. I’m a strong believer that photographs need to evoke an emotion to be successful. What stronger thing to cause them then the passing of time. My work is driven by these fleeting memories that come and go in life that I can’t seem to hold on to, and my camera acts as the vessel I need to stay connected to them.”

What background can be possibly used to vividly describe and illustrate the life in a metropolis? It is the rugged fire escape stairway! “I’ve always longed to work in the world of beauty. Even from a very young age, whether I was transforming my dolls into divas or being lectured by my 3rd grade teacher for not keeping my “coloring” strictly on paper, it was evident I was destined to fall into the wonderful world of cosmetics. I quickly became the go-to girl for fashion & beauty by all my friends, family, and everyone their word could reach. By the time I graduated high school, I already had my Esthetician license and was eager to expand my knowledge and gain my Cosmetology license as well. From there on, I’ve worked for a variety of salons and different lines and began freelancing. No matter where lifes journey has brought me, I’ve never lost my passion and I anticipate each new opportunity to transform someone into the starlet they’ve always dreamed of, pass along the many tricks of the trade I’ve learned,  or rebuild someones lost confidence. I feel so fortunate to have such a rewarding career that I absolutely love!”
