Ashley Summer for Miss Teen USA

Hey LA models, are in the beauty contest and need an update on your portfolio? Our studio has a vast amount of creative space to make your perfect shots stand out from the competition! Ashley Summer, directed by the photographer Domingo had visited us in stage D for a photoshoot in preparation for Miss Teen USA pageant. The PHOTOGRAPHER of the shoot was Domingo who can be reached via INSTAGRAM page for daily updates or bookings. The HAIR and MAKEUP was the work of Athena Jean. Working with both natural light and strobes this stage provides the best lighting solutions in any instance. With lots of space to encompass, stage D gives the opportunity for creating different diverse looks for photo and video projects. Great work requires great a persistent effort for a long time. Cara Harman, the LA based photographer is a great example of dedication to her craft that has already to led her to great work of unique and enthralling shots. This time, Cara and her team visited our Pro Stage I for a fashion/portrait session with the model Courtney McCullough.

A few words about the photographer and her artistic vision:

“I am an LA-based photographer and alumni of Art Center College of Design. I’m a strong believer that photographs need to evoke an emotion to be successful. What stronger thing to cause them then the passing of time. My work is driven by these fleeting memories that come and go in life that I can’t seem to hold on to, and my camera acts as the vessel I need to stay connected to them.”

When Arts come together, their immense powers though of different colors yet the same nature forge a crafted nucleus that can energize and enlighten the surrounds for generations. Here, at FD, we are eager and excited to watch such instances occur. And this time, it was a great pleasure to meet a sonic artist, LA rapper Michael Callendar for a photoshoot dedicated to TRUE MAGAZINE‘s recent interview with him.

“Music is my life. This is all I know and all I have known my whole life. I feel a deep connection not only with the raps I write or the music I Create but also with music in general. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the music my grandfather created, the history and the legacy he left behind. Knowing this I take my music seriously. It means so much more to me than anything else. I want to make history with my music just like my Grandfather. Growing up seeing how people loved my grandfather for his music made me want that same kind of love. I know the impact music can have on the masses and on history.”

“I’ve traveled the world and nation creating images and bringing visions to life. I have worked with music legends such as Bone Thugs n Harmony ,Teddy Riley, and Jazze Pha , as well as up and coming artist. Coming from a strong music background I decided to combine the two and see what would happen, the results were far greater than I expected. I dont take pictures I make them, I bring what I see to the surface for all to see. I can only be as good as the people I’m taking photographs of.”

Stage A is a modest sized studio, great for a nice and clean high-key look. A long time favorite of our clients, Stage A gets beautiful direct sunlight in the morning through north and east-facing windows, and beautifully soft indirect light as the day goes on. Tony Curtis presents: Rachel Hollon & Yvonne Kaelin

What background can be possibly used to vividly describe and illustrate the life in a metropolis? It is the rugged fire escape stairway! Tony Curtis, along with Rachel Hollon and Yvonne Kaelin had a recent photo session in our studio Pro Stage I taking a full advantage of its amenities. Besides modeling, Rachel Hollon established a successful career as a MakeUP artist:

“I’ve always longed to work in the world of beauty. Even from a very young age, whether I was transforming my dolls into divas or being lectured by my 3rd grade teacher for not keeping my “coloring” strictly on paper, it was evident I was destined to fall into the wonderful world of cosmetics. I quickly became the go-to girl for fashion & beauty by all my friends, family, and everyone their word could reach. By the time I graduated high school, I already had my Esthetician license and was eager to expand my knowledge and gain my Cosmetology license as well. From there on, I’ve worked for a variety of salons and different lines and began freelancing. No matter where lifes journey has brought me, I’ve never lost my passion and I anticipate each new opportunity to transform someone into the starlet they’ve always dreamed of, pass along the many tricks of the trade I’ve learned, or rebuild someones lost confidence. I feel so fortunate to have such a rewarding career that I absolutely love!”

It is always a pleasure to see the team of industry’s connoisseurs united by an idea to create a top notch product, whether it is a session for trendy magazine cover, or an experimental art project, or, as in this case, e-commerce photo shoot for the clothing line of a newly opened online store, Private Society LA. Private Society LA shared with us a few words about their visit to FD and their grand opening:

“Recently I used one of your studios to shoot for my company, Private Society LA, and wanted to thank you for our great experience.

Stage F was used for this creative session. The studio is the smallest space we currently offer for our clients. Yet it is one of the most brightest stages with the tremendous amount of natural light coming from North West. It has gained a nickname – “light box” by some of our regulars and it truly fulfills it at any time of the day from dawn until dusk. This studio also features two section laminate floor of white and dark color for your creative needs. Francesca Capaldi at FD Photo Studio

Francesca Capaldi, a Disney’s celebrity kid with red curly hair and beautiful brown eyes that you might have seen in a “Dog With A Blog” show had a recent shoot with the photographer Isa Battaglin for the European Children’s Fashion Boutique POSH KIDS in our stage C.

A few words about Isa:

“Hello my name is Isa and photography is my passion.

I am a Professional International Teens & kids Portrait and Fashion Photographer based in Los Angeles, California. Specializing in shooting natural light. I work with all Top Agencies in the US, Europe and Australia and some of the most beautiful models in the world have been in front of my camera.

I love learning about different cultures and people. Photography has always been a passion of mine and I have enjoyed taking pictures for as long as I can remember.”

The PHOTOGRAPHER and the STYLIST for this session, Isa Battaglin has already established a tremendous portfolio of kids’ portraits. Stage C is one of our largest studios, both a favorite for photoshoots and video productions alike. We are offering more and more studio options these days, but our shooters love the dark concrete floors and high-key industrial white windows of Stage C. Equipped with standard 9′ seamless backdrop paper, Stage C also features a large cyclorama wall – a favorite option for our brands shooting e-commerce and lookbooks. Christian Alvarado + Yasmin Burgos

How versatile a musical instrument like a grand piano could be? It turns out, very versatile. And its function can be executed for not the sonic qualities only, not necessarily, but for the catchy photogenic background that will make your photo stand out and bring a story into a still shot. Photographer Christian Alvarado had explored this notion in our stage ART 1 a few months back at the propitious time when LA weather was not that roasting and our piano was still blue. The crew of this session comprised two creators. The PHOTOGRAPHER Christian Alvarado, and the MODEL Yasmin Burgos. Make sure to have a look on Christian’s INSTAGRAM for more intriguing shots. The gorgeous Yasmin Burgos can be reached through her INSTAGRAM as well. Stage Art 1, has undergone recent renovation and now features some new perks for your creative needs. While retaining that high-key white industrial design that FD is well known for, we have added a section with dark grey wooden wall veneer in the North East corner of the stage. It also features grand piano ( of white color as of now) and golden sprayed palm leaves. As any of our stages, Art 1 comes equipped with 3 strobe lights and modifiers as well as backdrop paper of black, white and grey color. THE NARRATIVE SERIES by Abigail Collins

It was a pleasure to host a photoshoot for a true artist, the photographer Abigail Collins. Reading through her blog, it seems that each one of her photo sessions conveys a meaning, a purpose, a lesson. Some posts are profoundly inspiring whereas others are very sincere and touching at the given moment. This time was not an exception when Abigail decided to host a free portrait session in our stage ART 2 while implementing an original and very creative approach to it. We were happy to hear Abigail’s story as a photographer and her idea behind “The Narrative Series”:

“Abigail Collins is a wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer. She views each shoot as a completely unique, collaborative adventure. Every client contributes their own essence in her creation of images that not only document the time they share together, but tell a visual story of who they are. She captures the in-between moments in an artistic, inspirational style. In love with the nature of California, she is based in Los Angeles and always looking forward to her next creative destination.

[About the shoot] I reached out on social media and posted that I was hosting free portrait sessions all day on February 28th as part of a personal project called The Narrative Series. The catch was the sessions were free in exchange for the person’s story.

Social media reaches millions people, but can be isolating at times. I wanted to get rid of that distance and get to know people, and listen to what they had to say. It was an opportunity for them to talk about anything they wanted, and come away with an intimate and artistic portrait of the experience. No topic was off limits, but it had to be something important to them and shaped their life in some way. Each session was recorded, so when I posted the images I included excerpts of our conversations. Sharing those images and conversations with the public made the human connection come full circle. What I found to be most beautiful was that despite everyone being so different from each other, they all had common themes and similar thoughts, dreams or aspirations. We all want to make a difference, to matter, and leave a positive mark on this planet. “

With its unique look and harmoniously blent props, Art 2 is on a high demand. features a full rustic wood floor, that creates a platform on its South side. There is a wood staircase leading up to the platforms left side. The flooring is real wood throughout, and stained to a nice dark tone.
