Our recent interviewees Gaile and Jei from Wanderlust Creatives specialize in wedding photography. A very particular type of wedding photography – the one where the new-wed couple has an activity/theme that connects them together. Whether it is fitness passion, or and farm building, that glue that holds the bride and groom together is the sheer thing Wanderlast Creatives catch on their cameras and develop the theme for the entire photoshoot. “Fall Harvest” photoshoot is no different in that sense. The props, models and even the color balance of photos tells you the story of autumn, nature, and the relationship. Stage Art 1 was a choice of location for this session. Adorned with features like white grand piano and three step podium this stage is a tool of versatility, provider of great natural light, benchmark of industrial Downtown minimalistic design. This space has its windows facing South and West and gets beautiful direct light during the PM hours, and great open-shaded light in the morning. Using strobes? No worries, we include 3 strobe lights in the hourly rate along with black, white and grey background available. Stage Hill 4 is one of our largest and brightest stages. Advantageously positioned with the windows facing west and north, this stage gets plenty of sift indirect sunlight in the first half of the day and lots of direct sunbeams in the second half. Hill 4 is furnished with several comfy and photogenic couches of cream and and golden/brown leather color. South Korea by P.Rarri Photography

PRarri is the photographer we would love to know more about. Alas his website only shows masterpieces and has a single word in the center “PRARRI”. The only thing left to do is to enjoy the photos and amazing stylistic approach. “South Korea” session, in the dark room using harsh light like 7-inch modifier against blue background is how the beauty was captured by PRarri. Stage Art 3 is truly one of the pearls of our studio. Featuring thematic furniture of white and gold color and antique look that beautifully coincides with a rose wall covered completely in red and white flowers this stage brings both the uniqueness and versatility. As any of other 11 studios we provide this stage is equipped with three paper backdrops of white, black and grey color ready for your shoot. Art 3 has amazing natural lighting conditions. Stage Hill 1 is one of our newest and brightest stages we currently offer. Facing the west side this stage gets lots of natural light in the afternoon and has amazing lighting conditions during the golden hour. Among included props are industrial wooden table with benches, two antique green chairs and white leather comfy chair. Exploring Catchlights with David Bergman

Catchlights can never be undervalued when it comes to portraits. Often perceived as “breathing light or soul” into the subject, catchlights also are a handy decipher instrument that you can use to figure out what pre-light setup was used. David Bergman with AdoramaTV explores catchlights in a Two Minute Tips video. What are catchlights? When you look at a person’s face, inside each eye’s pupil there would be a beam of light that shines through. That is a catchlight. It shines off the reflective surface of the eye bouncing right into your eye, and creating that magical connection or at least an impression of it.

Catching Catchlights

Being the most common source of catchlights, the sun light appears in model’s eyes’ top corner , for obvious reasons. In order to “catch” a catch light the model has to be turned directly toward the light source. Thus, if you want to imitate the sunlight with the strobe, place a light source above, front, to the side of the model.

3 Mistakes Bridal Photographer Makes, with Vanessa Joy

One of the newest episodes posted by AdoramaTV covers a topic that many wedding/bridal photographers might find useful. Featuring Vanessa Joy’s Breathe Your Passion channel , the theme is “3 mistakes you’re making when posing your brides.” It is not a secret that many photographers who decide to turn their passion into full time profession, find out that wedding photography is one of the top paying niches. And in this niche your skillset is competing with a large number of others in the ocean of freelancers. Thanks to Vanessa Joy, here are some fix ups you can apply to your bridal photography and become more competent on market. Now before we begin, we must say that all three mistakes are erroneous against the same rule: Now that we know the basis of these flaws let’s get to the first one.

Double Chin Mistake

Shooting from the low angle is not a good idea when it comes to make subject look better. After all, usually people want to appear prettier (read “skinnier”) on photos. So try shooting from above or on the eye level of the model.

Big Nose Mistake

Wide lens when shot at the close distance makes the features of the subject look bigger then they are due to lens compression. Thus shooting with wide lens might give your model big nose problem. Try switching your lens to classic 50mm or 85mm or even zoom 70-200mm when doing closeup portraits. Portrait photographers’ all time favorite 85mm lens usually makes your shoot golden.

Wrong parts in camera

Some people don’t like their ankles. Or their hands. Or their hips. On photos they want to see less of what they don’t like and more of what they like. So if they think their hips are less attractive, get it away from the camera. If their hands are too long, get it way from the camera.

Example above on the left shows right hip and hand turned against from the camera making them to be perceived thinner. Example on the right also shows model’s left elbow drawn away from the camera and again perceived smaller, more photogenic.
