NYC Studio 7 also known as moroccan style stage, offers few unique features: conveniently installed by the window in our New York Studio 7 this shower setup opens up possibilities for your photography that were “drying up” before! Tyler Iacona in stage C Mar 19

A cool and nice fitness photoshoot by a professional photographer Tyler Iacona took place in stage C, where the huge CYC wall makes it very easy to capture the “infinity background”, perfect for e-comm or fitness shoots.

At the location:

Stage C was a choice of this creative collective for several reasons. Besides a tremendous space capacity perfect for both, large crews and small teams this stage provides a white CYC wall that is always freshly painted for each client. In addition to the prop count, a grass wall and a wood floor corned section installed for your creative exploration. If you aspire to shoot in a complete darkness and have a supreme control over lighting, Stage B is the space you would want to book. Featuring all black walls and ceiling, with capabilities to completely shut off the natural window light this space has become a favorite of our clients for both photo and video projects. As with our other studios Stage B comes equipped with black, gray, and white background paper, three strobe lights and numerous modifiers for your choice. In this episode, another prolific photographer from the AdoramaTV team, and also one of the founders of Lynn and Joseph photography, and SLRlounge.com – Pye will explain how to shoot portraits in the harsh midday light.

Pye explains “I have Maury and Courtney in our background right here. We’re shooting midday, unfortunately in the wintertime, midday in California, we still have a good directional light, so it’s like noon right now, but at least we have some direction to the Sun, and oftentimes when we’re trying to utilize a backlight, we don’t frame the subject over a background, or we can really see it. Oftentimes I’ll see images where we kind of take a shot of our subjects, where they’re sort of framed against a lighter background with a bright exposure, the hair light that’s on them it just completely disappears.”

“So to emphasize our hair lights, what I really want to do is get them into a place where my camera angle shoots them against a darker background, and we have that right here in these hedges. So I’m gonna show you the difference between those two, with just making some simple adjustments. We’re gonna shoot this at f/14, 1/2,000th and ISO100 just so I have a little bit of depth in my shot, so I do want to see a little bit of separation between the back, and what I’m gonna do now is, shoot them right against that hedge. This isn’t gonna be the final image, but it is to show you just how big of a difference, so look at the hair light, – now we can’t see the hair light over this versus this second shot, it’s just so emphasized, so that’s really the main gist of this.”

“When you are placing your subjects, and getting your camera angle, if you really want that hair light to pop, place them against a darker background. “

Many photographers see their artworks’ future as a part of some prestigious gallery, museum or private collection. Some dream of their photos being posted on billboard, as a sign of professional success. For either of these achievements a nice quality print is required. And today we will talk about a few tips of getting better quality prints, thanks to our beloved New Yorker – photographer David Bergman.

David shares: “Once you know how big you want a printed image, there are a couple other factors to consider. Pixels per inch or PPI, is literally how many pixels are squeezed into each inch of the photo. The tighter the pixel density the cleaner and smoother the image will look when printed.”

“If you don’t have enough pixels, the photo is gonna start to fall apart, and you’ll lose all kinds of detail. It’s generally accepted that 300 PPI is the most you’ll need so you can’t actually see the individual pixels, but your file might not be big enough to get 300 PPI at the size you want. I printed a small portion of my image of Marissa from a few weeks ago at various PPI values to demonstrate the three hundred and hundred fifty PPI prints looked pretty much the same.”

“At a hundred PPI however it starts to break down and 50 and 25 are basically unusable but there’s one more key factor and that’s viewing distance. There are some incredibly complex formulas that calculate the resolving power of the human eye at different distances, but the main thing to know is that you can see less detail the further away you are.”

“For example a print that’s gonna live on your desk at work, you should have PPI above 150, since you usually see it pretty close up. But for a big twenty by thirty inch print hanging on your wall you’ll probably never be closer than five feet away, so 100 PPI should be acceptable.”

“I made this photo of Bon Jovi at the end of a show in Brazil last year by combining three frames to make a really big file sizing it at a 120 by 44 inches to print on my Canon Pro 4000, it’s only 75 pixels per inch from more than 10 feet away though you can’t see individual pixels and it looks great at that size, so don’t be scared to print images big at lower resolutions if you don’t have a big enough file even a billboard looks great at 25 PPI because you’re three blocks away.”

Jay & Senny in NYC Studio 7

Jay is a full time Operations Manager, part time Photographer. Spends most of his time in NY but resides in NJ. “Every-time I Shoot, it’s like the very first time. I’m excited, nervous, anxious to see the end result of what we’ve created. I love it!”

About the shoot:

My favorite muse (Senny) and I, finally had time to connect and take advantage of stage 7 this time. In the end, not having enough time to utilize every inch of the space (should have booked more time), I was thrilled to incorporate the Shower and the Moroccan tiles area. in all we did 5 different looks within 2 hours and a short video.

1. The Moroccan tile section worked perfectly with the outfit I picked out with those beautiful colors in the background.

2. The Bathroom portion made for a great editorial shoot. I feel like this shots could sell a product or make you wanna go on vacation. I personally feel like this stage is the most diverse, and I loved it.

3. We used a V-flat for the rainy window effect.

4. Portrait shot with a lovely robe using continuous lighting, still using V-flat.

5. The Shadow pattern shot was not just to give a typical shadow pattern look. The focus for me was on her eyes, they tend to change colors, that alone is an exotic portrait in my opinion.
