StageF was used for this team’s creative session. The studio is the smallest space we currently offer for our clients. Yet it is one of the most brightest stages with the tremendous amount of natural light coming from North West. It has gained a nickname – “light box” by some of our regulars and it truly fulfills it at any time of the day from dawn until dusk. This studio also features two section laminate floor of white and dark color for your creative needs. Dance Shoot at FD LIC 2 Studio

About the photographer:

I have played around with photography for four years but have started to put a lot more work into my craft these past few months. I am new to studio work but loving it so far. The art of dance is beautiful to me and my favorite to capture with a camera. I brought my friend Ashley Carrizo along to be my subject and had so much fun capturing her expression of dance. I hope to dive into more dance art and work with all different types of dancers!

Button Remapping with David Bergman

In this quick tutorial photographer David Bergman from AdoramaTV teaches about the importance of button programming and customization on your camera.

Mr. Bergman shares: “I will show you how to customize buttons on Canon 5d Mark 3, but you’ll find that many other cameras have similar options. If you dig deeply into your camera menus, you’ll find an option that says “custom controls”.”

“This allows you to remap almost all the buttons and dials on your cameras. You can set them up exactly how you want them. So I shoot using the “back button autofocus” method and I find myself sometimes accidentally pressing that little star button instead of the AF-on button, since it’s closer to my thumb.”

“The default for the star button is auto-exposure lock, which I never use. So what I’ve done is I’ve changed it so that both buttons do exactly the same thing, so it doesn’t matter which button I press I’ll always have the function that I want. I also really like the way the camera setup by default and that what I’m shooting manually I control the aperture with the quick control dial on the back and then the main dial on top to control my shutter speed.”

“Some people like it the other way around, and this gives you the ability to switch those things, so you can have either one control, either function. Something I really like to do is check focus on playback by zooming into the image. The problem is the zoom button is on the left side of the back of the camera. I don’t like to pull my hand away from the lens to be able to push that button, so what I’ve done is I’ve remapped the “set” button in the middle of the quick control dial so that now all I have to do is move my thumb down there push it. It’ll zoom-in right where I want it, and I can check focus without having to fumble around for the button.”

“Lastly, if you’re the type of photographer that likes to move focus points around while you’re shooting – you can change that little joystick called the multi-controller, so that all you have to do is push that thing left right up or down and it’ll change your focus point without having to push any other buttons. This works really well because you can do it without pulling your eye away from the viewfinder. These cameras are infinitely customizable so you can set them up to work the way that you like to shoot.”

The stage:

Stage Art 1 was a choice of location for this session. Adorned with features like white grand piano and three step podium this stage is a tool of versatility, provider of great natural light, benchmark of industrial Downtown minimalistic design. This space has its windows facing South and West and gets beautiful direct light during the PM hours, and great open-shaded light in the morning. Using strobes? No worries, we include 3 strobe lights in the hourly rate along with black, white and grey background available. About the shoot:

It was a double first for me. First time shooting in a studio and a first doing a maternity shoot. I normally shoot landscape/cityscape photography but since the pandemic had me locked down I decided to dabble into portrait photography. Turns out I like it a great deal and will continue with studio shoots @fdphotostudio for the foreseeable future.

Birthday Shoot at FD Chicago 5

About the crew and the shoot:

My name is LaTosha Pointer and my business is GoldenLYT Photography. These pictures were taken in Chi 5 for his 5th birthday shoot! The studio was perfect to execute this spider man themed shoot and versatile to still get regular portraits for mom.

About the stage:

Chicago 5 is a beautiful “flower wall” photo studio with with tons of natural light and large window. It is located in East Garfield Park (nearest big intersection is Lake and Western) – 124 N Campbell Ave, Chicago, IL, 60612. All necessary equipment/amenites – 3x Flash Units (Strobes), Wireless Triggers, Fans, Sand Bags, Sound System (AUX), and Free Wifi are already included in the hourly rate.
