Camilla Christine Spring 2018 Photo Shoot

Camilla-Christine-Spring-2018-Photo-Shoot
Designer Jennifer Worrel and her beautiful bridal accessories were making stage Art 1 bloom and blossom with the help of crafty decorator Janelle Nicole Wylie. Using white as the dominant color of the session, photographer has emphasized the lightness of composition and its subject. “In 2011 Jennifer Worrel was planning her wedding with the goals of, like most brides, coordinating the most spectacular wedding anyone has ever seen and, more realistically, avoiding bankruptcy. With an established career in the Fashion industry and her mother, Cindy Medina’s, experience in dress making, together they designed Jennifer’s Veil, Headpiece, Sash, Clutch and Shoe Attachment using unique ornate components at an affordable price. Unknowingly this marked the beginning of a new chapter in both their lives. In 2012, Camilla Christine was established and launched on Etsy as a small collection of handmade accessories with a focus on weddings. Representing the ultra-feminine, fashion forward, modern day woman seeking couture-like quality at an attainable budget remains the soul of the company’s vision. What Started off as a fun part-time hobby, has grown into an emerging accessory brand with presence across numerous Bridal Retailers in the USA and across the Globe.”

3 Portrait Mistakes With Miguel Quiles

3-Portrait-Mistakes-With-Miguel-Quiles

Getting into the portrait photography? We feel you, we love it as well! As we are getting a lot of blog post submissions from our clients, we tend to notice some mistakes that new photographers tend to make while shooting with models. Today we are going to use the advice of Miguel Quiles and Adorama TV to explore three common portrait mistakes that hopefully you would avoid in the future. Mistake #1.

Lack of Communication With the Model

Often, while on set, photographers worry a lot about camera settings and technical aspects of how to get the right picture. You have to get your exposure right, your focus dead set and frame it properly, we get it. Meanwhile your model had also her/his thoughts and doubts on how to make the photos look better and whether they are up to the task. In this example, Miguel and his model gave a really good and at time funny rundown of what might go on in the photographer’s head and the model’s head when each is trying to figure out their problems on set. 3 Portrait Mistakes With Miguel Quiles -Tutorial, Studio Photography, shot at FD Photo Studio, rental stages, Photoshop, Photoshoot, Photography blog, paid photography, modeling, mistakes portrait photography, Los Angeles, How To, gear, gallery, FD photo studio, fashion photographer, DTLA, blog Always stay in communication with the model. Cheer up and encourage. Tell them they are doing a good job. This constant support will help the model to unlock and relax thus improving their looks and emboldening their desire for variations and experiments. Going further.

Eyes are Not In Focus

Oftentimes photographers forget about this important aspect of the portrait photography. They would have their cameras set on center focus and would end up with photos where the chest of the model is more in focus than the eyes, thus ruining the whole idea behind the concept of “portrait photography”. So if you tend to forget about adjusting your focus accordingly – this is the time to catch up. Whether it is a selective focus or in Sony case the eye autofocus, make sure that your lens focused tack sharp on eyes first.

Eyes Do Not Look In the Right Direction

For this mistake the photographer provides a very nice example of what usually happens when models are shy or inexperienced. Usually, to avoid looking directly into camera they would turn their face to the side but their eyes would turn even further away from the camera, thus exposing more white space of eye balls to the camera. 3 Portrait Mistakes With Miguel Quiles -Tutorial, Studio Photography, shot at FD Photo Studio, rental stages, Photoshop, Photoshoot, Photography blog, paid photography, modeling, mistakes portrait photography, Los Angeles, How To, gear, gallery, FD photo studio, fashion photographer, DTLA, blog This is not pretty. Make sure to communicate with your model to have her/his eyes look in the direction the face is turned. 3 Portrait Mistakes With Miguel Quiles -Tutorial, Studio Photography, shot at FD Photo Studio, rental stages, Photoshop, Photoshoot, Photography blog, paid photography, modeling, mistakes portrait photography, Los Angeles, How To, gear, gallery, FD photo studio, fashion photographer, DTLA, blogWatch the full tutorial video of David Bergman for Adorama TV here:

3 Ways To Set Your Flash Exposure with Daniel Norton

Three-Ways-To-Set-Your-Flash-Exposure-with-Daniel-Norton

Did you know that all of our stages already come equipped with three strobe lights available for your use? While this great opportunity to enhance your photos with a professional studio light is always within your reach, many photographers decline this offer due their inexperience of working with the studio lighting. Today we are going to show how to use lights or, more importantly tune lights to a proper exposure so you would get nice light balance on the model without burning or overshadowing  the picture. Photographer Daniel Norton from Adorama TV will  show you three ways to set your exposure using flash. There will be three techniques to cover: Using TTL Metering, A Flash Meter or your Histogram, all very easy techniques. Once eliminating the ambient light from your exposure, the next step in flash photography is to set the flash to give you a proper exposure.

Using TTL

TTL means “through the lens” metering which means that you are using your camera’s meter when you are using a flash exposure. A lot of people do not use it that much in the studio due to the fact that it re-meters itself every time you take a new frame. So this technique is great when you have a lot of variables changing all the time – lights moving, models moving, locations changing, etc. On the other hand, when everything is in place, it is not necessarily needed. Yet this feature is in lots of flashes now so we would go over that first. We start at having it set at 0. 3 Ways To Set Your Flash Exposure with Daniel Norton -Tutorial, TTL metering, Studio Photography, shot at FD Photo Studio, rental stages, proper exposure, Photoshop, Photoshoot, Photography blog, paid photography, modeling, Los Angeles, How To, Histogram, gear, gallery, Flash Meter, FD photo studio, fashion photographer, DTLA, Daniel Norton, blog With TTL metering you probably would need to do some adjustments. Most likely this technique will give you a decent exposure yet some adjusting might be required. From the photo above one can see that a few highlights on the model’s forehead are a bit hot. To remedy that use the flash exposure compensation on your camera and lower it one stop less or so. 3 Ways To Set Your Flash Exposure with Daniel Norton -Tutorial, TTL metering, Studio Photography, shot at FD Photo Studio, rental stages, proper exposure, Photoshop, Photoshoot, Photography blog, paid photography, modeling, Los Angeles, How To, Histogram, gear, gallery, Flash Meter, FD photo studio, fashion photographer, DTLA, Daniel Norton, blog

Using a Flash Meter

Using light meter is probably more classic approach. Set the parameters in a light meter (Daniel is having it at 1/250 for shutter speed and ISO 100.) 3 Ways To Set Your Flash Exposure with Daniel Norton -Tutorial, TTL metering, Studio Photography, shot at FD Photo Studio, rental stages, proper exposure, Photoshop, Photoshoot, Photography blog, paid photography, modeling, Los Angeles, How To, Histogram, gear, gallery, Flash Meter, FD photo studio, fashion photographer, DTLA, Daniel Norton, blog Now point the light meter at the light source close to the model. Depending in where you light power settings are, the light meter might show you that the picture is either over exposed ( F stop would rise to 16 or so) or underexposed. Make proper adjustments on your light source and decrease/increase its power level accordingly. Daniel has adjusted the power level of the strobe so his F stop would sit at 5.6. 3 Ways To Set Your Flash Exposure with Daniel Norton -Tutorial, TTL metering, Studio Photography, shot at FD Photo Studio, rental stages, proper exposure, Photoshop, Photoshoot, Photography blog, paid photography, modeling, Los Angeles, How To, Histogram, gear, gallery, Flash Meter, FD photo studio, fashion photographer, DTLA, Daniel Norton, blog The result turned out to be a little bit dark, so we would need to make an adjustment. As with TTL technique the meter technique will also give you only approximate results. So always double check the exposure and adjust it as your eye pleases. In this example Daniel turned the light source half a stop higher to get a brighter exposure and get nice results. 3 Ways To Set Your Flash Exposure with Daniel Norton -Tutorial, TTL metering, Studio Photography, shot at FD Photo Studio, rental stages, proper exposure, Photoshop, Photoshoot, Photography blog, paid photography, modeling, Los Angeles, How To, Histogram, gear, gallery, Flash Meter, FD photo studio, fashion photographer, DTLA, Daniel Norton, blog

Using A Histogram

For this technique the photographer uses a nice little gadget called “Pocket digital calibration target”. It gives you three neutral  colors – black, white and grey, that you would use to check it against camera’s histogram. 3 Ways To Set Your Flash Exposure with Daniel Norton -Tutorial, TTL metering, Studio Photography, shot at FD Photo Studio, rental stages, proper exposure, Photoshop, Photoshoot, Photography blog, paid photography, modeling, Los Angeles, How To, Histogram, gear, gallery, Flash Meter, FD photo studio, fashion photographer, DTLA, Daniel Norton, blog Have the model hold it in front of the face and take a shot to see where these colors are positioned on your camera’s histogram. Make sure to fill the frame with the target meaning that all three colors need to be in the frame. 3 Ways To Set Your Flash Exposure with Daniel Norton -Tutorial, TTL metering, Studio Photography, shot at FD Photo Studio, rental stages, proper exposure, Photoshop, Photoshoot, Photography blog, paid photography, modeling, Los Angeles, How To, Histogram, gear, gallery, Flash Meter, FD photo studio, fashion photographer, DTLA, Daniel Norton, blog In this example the photographer uses Capture One software tethered with his camera so he can see results right away and check Capture One’s histogram for more convenient adjustment. As you can see on the picture above the histogram is located on the top left corner and all three colors are sitting nicely at the levels they need to be (evenly spread out). If you are getting the different result, try adjusting the power level on your light to get close to this example. 3 Ways To Set Your Flash Exposure with Daniel Norton -Tutorial, TTL metering, Studio Photography, shot at FD Photo Studio, rental stages, proper exposure, Photoshop, Photoshoot, Photography blog, paid photography, modeling, Los Angeles, How To, Histogram, gear, gallery, Flash Meter, FD photo studio, fashion photographer, DTLA, Daniel Norton, blog   Watch the full tutorial video of David Bergman for Adorama TV here:
