Stained Glass Effect With Gels by Daniel Norton | Adorama TV

Stained-Glass-Effect-With-Gels-by-Daniel-Norton-AdoramaTV

Photographer Daniel Norton is one of the most prolific photographers in New York. He is especially known for his ongoing collaboration project with AdoramaTV called “OnSet“. In one of latest episodes, Daniel discusses the making of a colorful portrait of Larena using a mixture of gels to light the white wall of his studio.

The secret ingredient to create this “stained Glass” effect is a few colored gels taped to a “cookie” – a piece of foam board with cutout shapes to create peculiar patterns. Using Rosco Gel Kit, Daniel mixed gels of different colors to create a certain mood/vibe to a photo.

WHAT IS THE SETUP?

For this setup Daniel uses two profoto strobes. First one is pointed at the cookie with gels to flash through and create stained glass effect on the background. Second strobe is pointed towards the model from camera’s left side, almost at 90˚ horizontal angle. Daniel uses simple rectangular soft box at the close distance to create soft light with smooth transition into shadows. On the opposite side from the model there is a white bounce board that acts as secondary fill light source that makes that transition even smoother.

! The important aspect of this setup is that the key light, pointed towards the model on a side, never spills light on the background to avoid diminished saturation of gel colors.

WHAT ARE CAMERA SETTINGS?

Daniel uses cool medium format camera Hasselblad X1D-50c with 90mm Hasselblad F/3.2 XCD lens . He shoots at F8, with shutter speed 1/250, and ISO 200.

Stage Upgrade: Hill 4 turns yellow

Jungle Themed Photo Studio available for rental in Los Angeles

Just as you thought we were done with upgrading Hill 4, things turned 180 and we continued perfecting the stage. Now, the entire corner section by North facing windows is repainted yellow. The whole idea is to complement the theme of the stage – the jungle. Since we already have a tropical green leaf corner in the other section, adding another hallmark color of wild nature made perfect sense. ADDITIONALLY, we placed two cool chairs in there, just to spice things up. Here is your future favorite White Wicker Peacock Chair, Stage Upgrade: Hill 4 turns yellow -yellow wall photo studio, yellow wall, White Wicker Peacock Chair, Studio News, Shoot Location, Rental Studio, Renovation, Photoshop, Photoshoot, photography services, photographer, Photo Studio, new stage, natural light studio, Los Angeles, Hill Location, Hill 5, Hill 4, green leaves prop, Filming Location, FD photo studio, DTLA, Brown Wicker Peacock Chair, ambient light studio, !done and Brown Wicker Peacock Chair Stage Upgrade: Hill 4 turns yellow -yellow wall photo studio, yellow wall, White Wicker Peacock Chair, Studio News, Shoot Location, Rental Studio, Renovation, Photoshop, Photoshoot, photography services, photographer, Photo Studio, new stage, natural light studio, Los Angeles, Hill Location, Hill 5, Hill 4, green leaves prop, Filming Location, FD photo studio, DTLA, Brown Wicker Peacock Chair, ambient light studio, !done Have a look at our availability for Hill 4 and book now!

“I’m a Sacramento based portrait photographer, originally from the LA area. This shoot was a simple set-up test shoot with a friend of mine, Brooke Preston, who happens to be a current captain of the LA Clippers Spirit Dance Team. Brooke and I wanted to make the most of that gorgeous golden hour before sundown, and we were able to do just that! We really wanted to capture an intimate portrait vibe and keep things simple and clean. Love simplicity! “

Polaroid Shots of Julia Depoz

Polaroid-Shots-of-Julia-Depoz

Among many things that photographer Brian Saculles is fascinated about, the polaroid photography is leading the way. This session with model Julia Depoz was not an exception, as almost entire photoshoot was captured on Polaroid stills and later developed in digital. Accentuating antiquated attributes of developed photos, Brian connects past with present through eternal feminine beauty. What is Los Angeles the most famous for? You’re right. It is famous for its never-ending fascinating Hollywood stories. It is undoubtedly the capital of marvelous fables, blockbusters and horrific fictitious nightmares that chase the world for decades after. Here in LA, we value a good story, whether it is in a form of a movie or comic book, or a photograph. Photographer Ilya Nodia, on the best in a field of storytelling through a single photo, has decided to share his knowledge in a one time workshop called

“How to visualize a story in a single frame!”

Here are few details about workshop:

Who?

Ilya Nodia is a commercial, advertising and artistic photographer, traveler, storyteller. Check out his WEBSITE and INSTAGRAM for breathtaking images.

What?

In this class, Ilya will recreate a cinematic story using references from a few movie scenes, explain lighting options in details, show his way of working with models on set and share his skills in photoshop post production.

Where and when?

Class will take place at 6pm in the stunning FD Secret Loft where the view upon Downtown LA is simply breathtaking. Tickets are limited since the space is private. You will get the address a day before the class in a separate email.

Why?

Many photographers have perfected their framing and angles, color balance and depth. Yet the composition, or “the story behind the photo” is absent. If you would like to improve your storytelling skill and have your photos “speak out” for themselves, this workshop is for you.

How much?

TICKETS ARE NORMALLY $138 BUT WE ARE GIVING 50% OFF THIS MONTH!
