Fashion Photography by SANZO

Fashion Photography by SANZO -wrongron, Wrong Ron, Studio Photography, shot at FD Photo Studio, sanzo, rental stages, pro stage I, Los Angeles, FD photo studio, fashion, blog, !StagePro2, !done

Another great example of clean, vibrant, balanced fashion photograph. Note how the colors are separated and boosted with extra punch.

The choice of background color gradient was a great addition to overall “clinical simplicity” of the photo.

Here are few of our favorite picks from photographer’s Instagram:

Pro Stage II has been adorned with a few additions. Firstly, now there is a huge American flag that covers a good portion of the wall and is already becoming a hallmark of the Pro stages. In addition to that, standard photo backdrops of black, white and grey color, and studio lighting for stills are also included in the hourly rate. Make sure to catch the coolness of this space with your photo and video cameras  and book with us NOW.

Little bio of the photographer:

“Hal Banfield is the Principal operator of Halban Photography specializing in portrait photography. We feature dancers, Actors, Directors and Models.

The recent work captured at FD Studios is for our photo series on African American Dancers called “I Am Dance: Voices and Images of the Black Dancer.” Before coming to this space, we were having a challenge locating an affordable studio that can accommodate the space required for dancers to move about freely and thankfully, we discovered FD Photo Studios and Studio C with it’s great cyclorama wall.
For our series we work with a team of 4 including the dancer. We are always on the lookout for dedicated and trained dancers to participate in our series. At this time we are especially looking for ballet dancers. If you or anyone you know would be a good fit for this project, please reach out.”

!WORKSHOP! Retouching – Learn the basics of Lightroom!

Lightroom Retouch-2

What is retouching? And why the beginner photographer must learn it? In photography, retouching refers to a process used to improve the images appearance by altering an image physically, in the case of film or, digitally. Also known as “photoshopping” retouching can be used  to

  • remove a variety image defects or parts you you don’t want.
  • add layers of other images/effects to create a composition you like.

Retouching is usually done using software like Photoshop,Canva, Lightroom, +10 more available online, free or paid.   One of the most popular choices – Adobe Lightroom will be soon demystified by FD photographer Spencer Selover in a fun workshop that will happen on September 5th, 2018! This class is a beginner level, open to everyone interested in working on retouching or looking for a nice retouching basics refresher.

Here are few details about workshop:

Who?

Spencer Selover   WEBSITE

Spencer Selover has been shooting for over 13 years. His photography career started with just a small 8mp point and shoot camera and some heat lamps. He is now entirely self taught. People say his style has a very unique natural aesthetic. “I think it’s most likely because I no longer retouch my images, and use only natural light, and Lightroom in my pictures” Selover says. He has spent countless hours fidgeting with all the dials in Lightroom, watching videos or live streams from my favorite influencers to figure out how they do what they do, and have come up with my own techniques, which are constantly evolving.

One of the best examples on how to develop the photoshoot focusing on just one aspect, or backbone of the idea – in this case pink theme. Choice of makeup, jewelry, outfit and final “touches of paint ” added in post-production create a multi-layer dimension of how pink can be expressed on 2-dimensional image.

How to Get Work Done Faster, with Vanessa Joy

How-to-Get-Work-Done-Faster,-with-Vanessa-Joy

If you feel overwhelmed with tasks and have little to no time to focus on what you love and want to become better at (perhaps photography?), this episode is for you. From Adorama TV with Vanessa Joy (and her awesome show “Breathe Your Passion”) episode you will find out that there are two ways to unload your busy schedule and make the best of your time:

  • streamline
  • outsource

STREAMLINING YOUR TASKS

How to Get Work Done Faster, with Vanessa Joy -Vanessa Joy, Tutorial, Studio Photography, streamline, shot at FD Photo Studio, rental stages, quick tips, Photoshop, Photoshoot, Photography blog, paid photography, outsource, modeling, Los Angeles, how to get work done faster, How To, gear, gallery, FD photo studio, fashion photographer, DTLA, blog, Adorama TV

To streamline your workflow, you’d need to equip yourself with a few of useful online tools. One of them, Vanessa’s favorite, is called “17 hats”. This software is basically your office space.  You can take care of your leads, emails, bookkeeping and other repetitive boring chores in a fast, systematic and easy way.

If you actively promote your photography on social media, (as you should), download “Buffer” or “Huitsuite” apps that let you schedule your posts days and weeks in advance. We all know how important it is to keep up with updates on Instagram, so you won’t use your followers. At the same time, Social media demands tremendous amount of time and attention – a luxury, which we want to have for making photos, rather them watching them.

The third tip of streamlining your workflow is called Time Blocks. Every task you have should have a dedicated time frame, within which you will complete it. Time frames for different tasks cannot overlap and should be stocked on top of each other. That way your mind will dedicated its whole focus on one particular subject at the time. Multitasking in this case is actually slowing you down!

OUTSOURCING YOUR TASKS

How to Get Work Done Faster, with Vanessa Joy -Vanessa Joy, Tutorial, Studio Photography, streamline, shot at FD Photo Studio, rental stages, quick tips, Photoshop, Photoshoot, Photography blog, paid photography, outsource, modeling, Los Angeles, how to get work done faster, How To, gear, gallery, FD photo studio, fashion photographer, DTLA, blog, Adorama TV

There are many Lightroom and photoshop freelancers, available on websites such as freelancer.com and Upwork.com  who can edit your photos for a very reasonable price! And you think that there is no-one who can as perfect as you are at Ps and Lr, maybe its time for a reality check.  According to  Vanessa, here is a great website to outsource your post production to.

So why outsource in the first place? Vanessa Joy sets apart 5 different reasons why a photographer or any other professional should outsource some of her tasks:

     1.It slows you down!

Some work might be enjoyable but very time-consuming. Have you ever measured how much time you would spend erasing pimples and little imperfections  off the model’s face? What if you have 20 more photos  you need to erase those dreaded pimples from? Get ready to block out the entire day for that.

Or you can find someone who can do it for you, while could focus on developing new ideas for your clients!

     2. You hate doing it!

Don’t torture yourself repeatedly with chores you hate. Firstly, you will never give the task your 100% best effort. Secondly, your emotional stamina will be drained for the rest of the day, after that task is completed. More time wasted, less time enjoyed.

     3. You are not good at.

If you suck at something, let someone else do it. Don’t waste your days to make something decent, when someone else can spend few hours to make something perfect. Pay for it, enjoy the result, no headache attached.

     4. Your Face is not involved.

In this episode Vanessa shares with us that any connection with your clients that doesn’t involve your physical self in it, i.e. personal meetings, etc. can be outsourced to other people. There is plenty of time spent on emails, messages, tweet responses, and thank you comments that you can free up if you hire someone to do it.

     5. Minimal Wage Tasks.

There is a reason why Steve Jobs did not spend time changing toilet paper in every bathroom of Apple’s headquarters. Why? Because it is not a goo use of his time. If you know that your particular gig earns you $100/hr, why would you spend time doing things that will give you $10? Outsource anything that is minimum wage work.

And here is awesome self-portrait of photographer.

Stage Art 1, a long-time FD Photo Studio favorite, was used for this shoot. With the high-key white industrial design that FD is notorious for, Stage Art 1 is a clean setting that can be manipulated to fit all kinds of projects. This space has its windows facing South and West and gets beautiful direct light during the PM hours, and great open-shaded light in the morning.

Ari Loeb’s self-portrait. How was this photo made?

Ari-Loeb's-self-portrait.-How-was-this-photo-made?

Photographer Ari Loeb took a self-portrait, while waiting for his model to arrive in stage B. Coming in a few minutes early, and he was able to play with the setup, as well as film a last-minute self-tape audition! And he booked the job!

Ari Loeb's self-portrait. How was this photo made? -wrongron, Wrong Ron, Studio Photography, shot at FD Photo Studio, rental stages, Photoshop, Photoshoot, photography services, photographer, Model, Los Angeles, how was this photo made?, FD photo studio, DTLA, blog, beauty shoot, Ari Loeb, !done, !B

How did he make this photo?

If you look at the catch light in Ari’s light, there is a round light source hitting the model from above, camera’s right. Shadows on Ari’s face are well defined, hard, which hints us that the modifier most likely was a beauty dish, possibly without diffuser. This portrait resembles Rembrandt style portrait, where the model’s face will have a  triangular shaped shadow under one of his eyes.

Few words about Ari and his  experience in stage B:

“I am a full-time stunt performer in film and television, and part-time photographer. I am a dancer and choreographer, formerly Cirque du Soleil, Spider-Man on Broadway, and Pilobolus Dance Theater. I have choreographed for television in 8 countries, and worked in 350 cities worldwide. Now I am back and forth between Los Angeles and Atlanta, photographing whenever I can, mostly dancers and acrobats. My love for grace and the human form will never die. Thank you FD Photo Studio for a great session. Can’t wait to come back!”
