FD Photo Studio has seven blackout studios across New York: five in Brooklyn, one in Long Island City, and two in Astoria, Queens. Each one gives you black walls, black ceiling, and zero ambient light bleed so the only light in your frame is the light you put there.

Why Shoot in a Blackout Studio

When a space is completely dark, you control every detail. You decide the direction, the color, the intensity, and the mood. This matters whether you’re sculpting dramatic shadow on a portrait subject, shooting a product on a seamless black background, lighting a car to show off its body lines, or creating a neon-soaked music video look that would be impossible anywhere else.

Compare that to renting a daylight studio and blacking it out yourself: hanging fabric, taping gaps, burning 30 to 45 minutes of your rental time before a single test shot fires. A proper blackout studio is already done. You walk in and start shooting.

The double mirror walls create infinite reflections, which gives you a visual depth that reads very differently depending on how you light it. Rain shoots outdoors require permits, safety crews, and weather you can’t control. Metro 4 removes all of that. This 920-square-foot studio is located at 1003 Metropolitan ave, Brooklyn, NY 11211. It has four rain modes, pre-installed RGB wall lights, two GVM 1500D LED panels included at no extra cost, a black tile wall, a black block wall, a park bench, and a bathtub. Rates start from $49.99.

The rain system adds the option to shoot without a location permit or outdoor weather risk. At 1,820 square feet, this is the largest blackout space in the New York FD Photo Studio lineup.

The white cyc wall gives you a clean, seamless background that works for e-commerce, product photography, portraits, and video content where you need a bright, neutral look without setting up a separate backdrop. The blackout space mean you still control every bit of light in the frame. It’s the most affordable studio in the Metro building, which makes it a practical choice for longer production days or teams who want to keep costs down while staying in a fully equipped space.

What Comes With Your Rental

Every blackout studio rental includes three flash units, wireless triggers, c-stands, sandbags, v-flats, a makeup station with mirrors and seating, a sound system, and free WiFi. Continuous lighting is available for rent across all studios. Seamless paper backdrops are available for an additional price: $29.99 for a small sweep (up to 6 ft on the floor), $59.99 for more than 6 ft of backdrop on the floor, or $75 for the full 36 ft roll. All studios are 100% private. No permit or insurance is needed. Bookings are self-check-in. There is a 1-hour minimum on all rentals.

FD Photo Studio has 4, 8, and 12-hour packages, giving you better rates than booking single hours, with savings of up to 25% compared to hourly rates. Weekend rates are higher across all studios. Verify current pricing before booking.
