A fashion design senior at Pratt Institute, Kayleigh Connor shot her thesis collection at New York Studio 1 stage, also known as “white floor studio”.
““The Meat of It” is inspired by the idea that society views women as pieces of meat. Silhouettes are based on play and drapes of a leather butcher’ apron. Meat itself provides inspiration from the form of bound rump steaks, to the fatty marbling patterns as abstracted shapes. The classic butcher’s apron is a striped cloth which provides a strong and familiar base for many of the garments and their unique applications. By tracing the marbling found in meats, and abstracting the shapes, something normally deemed grotesque gets a new life as something beautiful and empowering. The collection features 10 looks with unique applications created with the advanced technology of the Framis NoSo Machines such as the intentionally ruffled rib fabric and crisp patches of heat transfer films. ”
