If you ever need to shoot small objects for sale, this episode will answer all your questions about how to shoot it best. With tips from the renowned photographer David Bergman from AdoramaTV we will find out what the “Light Tent” also know as the “light box” is.
David shares: “Whether you’re a high-end product photographer, or just need to shoot small items to sell online, you want to make the most flattering images possible. if you use the flash on your camera, the light is going to be harsh, directional and your background isn’t gonna look very good. The key to getting flat shadowless lighting on a solid background, is to have it coming from all directions to light up your product. The easiest way to do this is to use what’s called a light tent.”
“You can get a pop-up tent without lights, and add your own, however in this particular model.. it’s the glow 17-inch Studio cube, and it has small LED lights built in. So it’s an easy all-in-one solution, they come in various sizes, so just make sure you have enough room to get your product in. By surrounding your product with soft white light from all directions, you get nice even shadowless light on both the foreground, and the background.”
” This tent comes with different color backgrounds, and you can sweep it up to cover the corner scenes. You can use the resulting pictures as is, and it also makes it easy to cut off the background in the computer if that’s what you need. Don’t forget about color when shooting products, because it’s super important to be accurate. Use a color checker, so you don’t misrepresent your product. If it’s something you’re putting up for sale, you can also use a light tent to photograph reflective objects, but since you’re seeing all of the lights bouncing back at you, you’re gonna need to use bigger light sources.”
