Photo Studio with Rooftop Access in Brooklyn, New York

Finding a location that gives you both a controlled indoor space and rooftop access in New York is harder than it sounds. Most photographers end up booking two separate spots, splitting the day, and losing hours in between or use public rooftops with other people or cars in the shot. The Rooftop Studio at FD Photo Studio in Brooklyn gives you a daylight studio and a rooftop in a single rental.

Why a Studio with Rooftop Access Is Different

Outdoor locations in New York are not hard to find. Good ones that are private, permit-free, and come with a makeup station and a full equipment kit: those are rare.

Rooftop rentals on Peerspace start at $100 to $200 per hour. No equipment included. You carry your equipment yourself, and when you need to touch up between looks, there is nowhere to go. Street locations are free, but you get strangers walking into frame, traffic noise, and no way to reset a scene.

The Rooftop Studio Brooklyn 2 is a different setup. The rooftop and the studio are in the same building, under the same reservation. Three strobe lights, wireless trigger and receiver, C-stands, sandbags, and v-flats are already inside at no extra cost. It has a makeup station with a mirror, seating, and a changing area right there. If rain moves in or the wind is affecting your shoot, you step inside and keep shooting. You do not lose the day.

The light situation alone is worth planning around. East-facing windows give you strong, clean morning light indoors. The rooftop is open sky, so you can shoot out there at any point: morning, midday, or golden hour. Three completely different lighting situations in one booking without moving around.

Need both clean studio shots and outdoor rooftop frames on the same day? You rent once and get both. That means no second location, no second studio booking, and a much wider range of images to deliver to your client.

And the whole day stays private. No strangers walking through. No one is waiting for you to wrap. Just your crew, your talent, and the Brooklyn skyline.

More About The Studio

This daylight studio is located at 114 Scott Ave 3rd floor, Brooklyn, NY 11237.

The studio is 790 square feet with east-facing windows that bring in strong morning light. That light comes through clean and steady in the early hours, giving you a strong look without any strobes. If you want full light control, three flash units, wireless triggers, c-stands, sandbags, and v-flats are all included with the rental. The space also has a makeup station with a mirror and seating, a portable speaker, and free WiFi. Air conditioning is included, as well as a floor fan.

The rooftop access is the standout feature. It is open sky, which means you can shoot out there at any point during your rental: morning, midday, or golden hour. Step outside directly from the studio and get unobstructed Brooklyn industrial views. Sunset light on an open Brooklyn rooftop hits differently than anything you can replicate inside. Want that authentic New York rooftop? This is it.

Seamless Paper backdrops are available at an additional price: $29.99 for under 6 feet of floor coverage, $59.99 for more than 6 ft and $75 for a 36 ft full roll. Check the FD Photo Studio equipment list for all additional rentable items, including continuous lighting and modifiers. The list covers both included and rentable equipment.

The studio is 100% private and self-check-in. No permits or insurance required.

Portrait photographers, content creators, musicians shooting promo material, brands that need both clean product shots and lifestyle imagery, and fashion photographers building lookbooks all get a lot of mileage out of this setup. You are not locked into one look for the whole day.
